Loft conversion design
An unused roof space can open up new possibilities for your home. We explore how a loft could accommodate a bedroom, bathroom or workspace, and how it would connect to the floors below.
Look beyond the extra room
A loft design needs to work as part of the whole house. The stair position, circulation, roof shape and available headroom influence how much of the space can be used comfortably. We start by understanding the existing building and the room you want to create.
Window positions and the arrangement of the interior affect daylight, privacy and the character of the new space. We discuss the relationship between the proposed roof alterations and the appearance of the house as the design develops.
Develop the design and its technical requirements
Depending on the agreed appointment, our work can include measured information, concept layouts, planning drawings and technical drawings for building regulations. The appropriate scope is discussed for the particular property and proposal.
A loft conversion can involve changes to the roof, floor and stair arrangement. Structural information and other specialist input need to be coordinated with the design where required. We explain the drawing stages so you can see how the proposal moves from an idea towards information for construction.
Tell us what is already there
For an initial discussion, send the property address, photographs of the house and roof, existing plans if available, and a description of the space you would like. Any previous alterations or decisions affecting the property are also useful to know.
We work from Birmingham and London. Contact us to discuss your property, the design possibilities you want to explore and the services you need. The next steps and fee proposal are agreed before the appointment begins.
