Measured building surveys & existing drawings
A clear record of your existing building gives the design a useful starting point. From Birmingham, we provide measured surveys and existing drawings for home alterations, extensions and interior projects across the UK, with the scope agreed for the property.
Understand the building before changing it
An extension, loft conversion or interior redesign needs to relate to what is already there. Room arrangements, openings, levels and the relationship between spaces all influence the options. A measured survey records the information agreed for the design brief, rather than relying on photographs alone.
Tell us what you want to change and whether you have existing plans. We review the information available and discuss which parts of the property need to be recorded. Access to the relevant rooms and external areas is arranged before the visit.
Drawings suited to the next stage
Existing floor plans, elevations and sections can form part of the agreed drawing package. The required drawings and level of detail depend on the property and the stage you are preparing for. We confirm the deliverables in the appointment so you know what information will be provided.
The existing drawings can then be used to develop layout options and compare the proposed changes with the current building. A brief for planning drawings may need different information from a detailed interior design appointment, so the survey should be considered alongside the intended work.
Prepare for an initial discussion
Send the property address, photographs, any existing drawings and a short explanation of the changes you have in mind. Let us know about access arrangements and whether parts of the building are occupied. If another designer or specialist has requested particular information, include that brief.
Our office is at 503 Coventry Road in Small Heath, Birmingham. We discuss the location, access and drawing requirements before agreeing the survey appointment. Any separate structural or specialist investigations are considered according to the needs of the project.
